The Andy Dufresne #37 Shawshank Prison Basketball Jersey

Based on a Stephen King short story, the Shawshank Redemption is arguably the most beloved film of all time. It's a classic hero arc where the main character is locked away yet finds freedom, and redemption, at the end of a very long shit pipe.

The hero in this case is Andy Dufresne, an affable banker put away for killing his wife and her lover.

Andy, of course, deserves his own jersey.

The Shawshank Prison jersey is an homage to not only the character but also the actor as well as the aesthetics of the prison in the film.

First off, the jersey sport selection itself is a nod to the actor, Tim Robbins. Robbins himself is six foot five so it seems natural to assign basketball as Dufresne's prison yard sport. He surely would have been recruited.

Next is the jersey design. The warden would never spend much on uniforms so they would be simple. It is also the style of uniforms of the period with solid colors and block text.

And if you've seen the film, you know all the inmates wear blue jeans with light blue shirts. Therefore the Shawshank jersey is navy and light blue.

Finally is the number, 37. Like their regular shirts, it's easy to imagine the inclusion of the prisoners official number on the front. Three and seven are the first two numbers of Andy's Shawshank number, which is included on the upper front.

The result is a period, film, and character relevant jersey. A true representation of arguably our most loved film.
